Excellent tours around Mindo Our guide Efrain was incredible. His knowledge of not only the birdlife but also the other flora and fauna was outstanding. The whole day bird watching tour took us to three sites at different altitudes and we counted over 60 different bird types. The interaction with the hummingbirds was exceptional. Day Adventure of the Mindo Cloud Forest, Chocolate and Birdwatching We scheduled a day trip to visit the Mindo Cloud Forest as part of our visit to Ecuador in May 2024. Our guides at Sabina Tour arranged a customized day for us and picked us up at our hotel in Quito. We arrived at the Casa Divina Eco Lodge for breakfast and then headed out on a fantastic day of hiking in the waterfall sanctuary, enjoying the foods of Ecuador, touring the town of Mindo to experience chocolate making, and birdwatching. The hike in the Cloud Forest was simply amazing. Efrain, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable and provided a wealth of information on the vegetation, birds, and insects we encountered along the way. This was not an ordinary walk in the woods! The forest is beyond words and the waterfalls were the highlight of the trip. The hiking can be challenging due to the steep slopes so bring walking poles and good shoes, but it was well worth the effort. The payoff was a beautifully prepared lunch and visit to a chocolate making tour. Bring cash to facilitate buying some chocolate for your trip home! We had so much fun and found the Divina Lodge owners to be so accommodating and friendly. It was a long day due to the drive from Quito and back. Loved Sabina Tours! Efrain is such an amazing guide- he literally was the highlight of our entire trip in Ecuador. With Sabina Tours we went zip lining, went on a waterfall hike, went to the hummingbird garden, went tubing down the river, and had a morning of birding as well. Efrain is obviously an expert on all the local birds, but he shared lots of fascinating information about the forest and other plants and animals as well. He is a well- rounded naturalist that can’t help but share his enthusiasm for the area. We simply loved all of the activities we did with Sabina Tours- our kids (ages 9-14) had the best time in Mindo because of all these great experiences. Hands down, the Best place we ever stayed at on our vacation! We were at Mindo in Dec 2023 and stayed at Cas Divina. This was the best vacation ever. Molly and Erfan are awesome hosts along with their 2 daughters. They take care of all your dietary restrictions, and allergies and ask that in advance. They handle everything - Boarding, Food, and Tours. The cabins are beautiful and are in a cloud forest setting. The Food is prepared so well and I cannot even describe it in words. Worry free birding adventure We knew coming into our Ecuador trip that we wanted to visit Mindo to go birding. We learned about this tour researching online and at first we were unsure if we should just do a packaged tour or try to individually book all the tours ourselves. However, we ended up booking through Sabina Tours and we are so glad we did! The tour was worth every penny, and I mean it when I say that it was worry free! They took care of the transportation, food (which was amazing by the way), lodging, equipment needed to go birding, and all the activities. They are very detail oriented and from the start, they were always very responsive to our questions or concerns. They even tailor the packages to your individual likes, which I thought was a nice touch. From the very start of the tour we could tell our guide, Efrain, knew his stuff. We learned so much about the area that I don’t think we would have picked up on if we tried doing some of the stuff on our own. I appreciated that Efrain was also constantly checking in to make sure we got to do and see all the things in the area. It really felt like a 5-star service where all you had to do was just wake up and experience all the amazing things Mindo has to offer. Fabulous Mindo Tour Company The Sabina Tour company was so helpful on our recent family visit to Mindo. This company, and owners Efra and Molly in particular took fabulous care of all of our birdwatching, night hike, and other travel needs. The educational factor was above and beyond and we came away with such a deep respect of the area and all it has to offer. The passion and stewardship with which the owners connect with the nature and the land is always on display. Andean Choco Birding Tour and Casa Divina Lodge My wife and I just completed the 6 day Sabina Tour Andean Choco Birding Tour. It was excellent and we had a blast! We made day trips to various locations, each within 2 hours of Mindo. We hit the road at 5am each morning and were back at homebase, Casa Divina, in the afternoon. Each location was selected to allow us to find different birds at various altitudes and habitats. The best part of the tour, by far, was having Efrain (Casa Divina owner and virtuoso birding expert) as our guide. A private car and driver was also provided for the week. Not only did Efrain find all the birds for us, he also promoted a positive and educational experience that made our week unforgettable. Efrain is a communitiy leader and has helped many in the town of Mindo tranform into eco-consious birding advocates. And the birds! Ecuador is a treasure chest! The tour took us from 3500 ft to 13,000 ft. Each day was extraordinary. One day we were antpitta gobsmacked with 5 species plus an antthrush and a lek of Andian Cock of the Rocks. Farmers Rodrigo and Angel stand in the woods and call 'their' antpittas into view for birders who come from all around the world to see them. The next day we visited a dairy farm whose owner had discovered that he has long wattled umbrella birds on his property. Good work is being done to preserve the natural treasures in and around Mindo. Fantastic bird watching guide and accommodation We booked a 2 day birding trip from Quito. We had a fantastic time with Efraim as our guide. We are inexperienced bird watchers and his enthusiasm and knowledge about birds is fantastic. With his experience he is able to identify birds by sound and spot them. He has a great lens which made it possible for us to see birds in great detail.The stay at the Davina Lodge in Mindo was great as well. Beautiful lodge with a great garden and 2 trails to watch more birds. The food and hospitality were outstanding! We extended our stay to enjoy it more. Highly recommend this and hope to return here.
